Girls In Red

I have 3 red cows.  One  is from a black cow and black bull.

Gail is really pretty sweet .....when she is being good.  When she is being bad....I threaten her with the sale ring.

I love her face.

Grace has cute spots on her nose.  She has pretty eyes.

Gail and Grace were born here.  Gail's mother was also born here.  Grace's mother came here from another outfit.  She had produced her first calf but couldn't stay where she was. It seems that Limpy suffered a hip injury when she was just a wee little lass.  She recovered with the help of some very dedicated people but has always been a bit crooked.  When the rest of the cows were sold this cow couldn't go to the sale ring because she was a bit crippled.  So, she came to live here.  She always carries her calves on one side.  Always.  So she looks a bit lumpy on one side and concave on the other.

Limpy has been here for a long time and will not go back with a bull in the spring.  She can hang out with the sheep until the bull goes back to the bull pasture.  Of the whole bunch, Limpy is the best.  She is the best mom. Some years she keeps her calf hidden for 2 weeks which makes ear tagging and banding a little more difficult.   She isn't big, but raises a good calf.  Her little one weaned at 600 pounds this year.  I think her face shows the wisdom of her years.  Limpy gets to stay here forever.

I'm not sure what happened here, but I swear that Grace isn't really this long.  It's a weird camera thing.  Camera goblins!

Cute Contest

Maisie over at   http://myfavoritesheep.blogspot.com/   is just the cutest thing. ( I can't make this link any way I try.  Copy and past or just go to Punkin's Patch.) I've been looking for someone just at cute.

You are cute, Gail, especially with that pine branch hat.  But not cute enough.

Baby Lewis is pretty cute.  But still not good enough.

Baby Ginny is pretty cute with her backside up in the air.

This whole gang is pretty cute.  Dickens making a leap.  Then from left to right, Lewis, Mary, Ginny, and Martha.

Martha is the cutest of the bunch. She's wearing the smallest baby shirt I could find and she's bigger than Maisie!  Mary, on the right, is more "normal" size. But I think Maisie is the winner!

Frosty Fog

It snowed more last night.  Then the fog moved in and it got cold.  Freezing fog.

By the time the sun came up the fog had lifted and the thermometer was sitting at zero.

What a wonderful way to start the day!

Gus wants to tell you his Tale About A Tail.

Mom and I were doing outside stuff all afternoon.  We had a good time.  Splitting wood and checking the sheeps and feeding everyone and filling water tanks.  I was pretty excited still when we were ready to come in the house.  I tried to get through the door first  was right behind Mom.  All of a sudden I was attacked.  ATTACKED! In my own doorway.  The monster had my tail crushed between it's jaws.  It was going to bite it off!  And it wouldn't let me go!  It really hurt  and I was, um, scared.  I um, well, peed on the porch.  Mom rescued me though.  And wasn't even mad about puddles on the porch.  I had to have 4 cookies, had to sit on Mom's lap for a long time, and had to have a good hide nap in my crate.  Mom says it was the door and that it bit me 'cus I was being pushy about getting inside.  But I know.  It was probably the Bombable snow man.  I've heard about them.  They eat dogs.  'Specially Border Collies.
Just thinking about it makes me need another nice nap.

When You Point the Camera At the Sky...

I was trying to get pictures of snow flakes.

So I got a picture of a snow flake on the lens.  Not exactly what I was after.

It started snowing around 6:30 this morning.

By 7:00 we had some fog but not much falling snow.

Lewis isn't minding the snow so much.  But he is worried about THAT DOG.

By the time I finished feeding it had started to snow again.
I fooled around with settings on my camera (which I know nothing about)....

And got more flakes on the lens.

But I like the trees.

I have no idea what I did, but..

I got some flakes!

Tomorrow maybe we can get The Gus to tell us his Tale About A Tail. He says that he's still too embarrassed to talk about it tonight.

Breakfast

Hey you two!  Wake up!  You're the last ones in the tree.
Breakfast is coming up soon.

Morning Fred.  You're being a good, patient boy this morning.

Check out those cute knees!

Fred, you are getting pretty fluffy.  How's your breakfast?

Eighteen is a happy boy.  What a smile!

Fred is liking his breakfast too.

Okay birds.  Your turn.

Corn!  My favorite!

Eat fast, Grey.  Those other guys are moving in.

Working on it W.  Just keep eating.  We can chase them later.

Oh man!  He's getting pushy.  I'll just ignore him----for now.

I'll shoulder him out of the way.

Whew!  We're leaving them behind.

Hey!  Me too!  Me too!

I'll just sneak up on that sheep.....

Howling

The Gus and Pickles are out in the yard keeping track of the coyotes.  We have lots this year and tonight they are howling up a storm.  It's the one time I let the dogs bark as much as they want .

Other nights this is where I might find them.

Gus has grown since I took this photo, but he still likes to snuggle under my desk with Pickles.

From Gus

Mom got me a new toy.  It's nice, but I had to fix it.  She didn't get a picture of it before I fixed it though.
See?

Like it?

I thought so.  I like it too.  It works better this way.  I'll show you.

I can grab it,  squash it under my chin, kill it, and

I can throw it.  Mom says her camera isn't fast enough to catch Air Gus though.

It's a good toy.

Thanks Mom!

I protected Mom today too.  There was a bunny about 100 yards from where she was splitting wood.  I chased it away so it wouldn't attack her.

Mom has a picture of a bird she wants to show you.  It's a magpie.  She likes them.  I don't.  They try to eat my dog food when I leave a little in case I get hungry later.
